short description of HDFN Hemolytic disease of the fetus and newborn (HDFN) is an alloimmune disorder in which maternal IgG antibodies cross the placenta and target fetal red blood cells carrying an antigen inherited from the father. This can cause progressive fetal anemia and, in severe cases, hydrops, heart failure, or fetal death.
